As a designer, I don’t just make shirts; I make “uniforms” for the generation that survived the 70s and 80s without a GPS or a cell phone. Being a Gen X designer means knowing that sarcasm is our second language and comfort is our top priority.
It is funny how a “badge of honor” for one person can feel like a “dig” to another. While we see these shirts as a fun way to celebrate our childhood, younger people sometimes read between the lines differently.
Do you remember where you were the first time you heard a cat talk? I certainly do! Long before we had “reels” or “tik-toks,” we had the absolute gold that was America’s Funniest Home Videos. It was the late 90s, and suddenly, a fluffy kitty appeared on our CRT televisions and changed internet history forever with just four words: “Oh Long Johnson.”
